I do take my duties as a marriage celebrant very seriously but am not adverse to a laugh or two or maybe even more. My performing career has spanned into presenting, MC’ing, childrens theatre, cruise ships, television series and commercials, voiceover, directing and tour managing.

I met my wonderful wife in a touring theatre production in 2010, I asked her to marry me in 2013 and I was approved to become a marriage celebrant whilst we were on our honeymoon in 2015. Since then I’ve been fortunate enough to have officiated over 400 wedding ceremonies, been featured on 7 News and Married at First Sight and am looking forward to so many more!

You’re probably a few wines deep into profiles of celebrants that are “committed to making your wedding personal, romantic and meaningful”, and people that are “people people with a passion for life”. The real challenge would be finding a celebrant that hates love, doesn’t want to “create the most memorable day for you and your family”, and isn’t going to “embrace your ideas, your quirks and unique personality to craft a script befitting of your special occasion”…

I’m in my very late early 30s, and can be hilarious, dignified, meaningful, respectful and/or fun. I have suits in literally every colour and others in weird and wonderful patterns if you want to have a bit of fun with things. I keep my rates more affordable than the average because I have a good time with it, and offer package discounts for Divorce Ceremonies taken before your Silver Anniversary. After that they’re just free because you’d deserve a break.

I’m a life celebrant, so you could keep me around to name your first child, renew your vows and bury your partner after they forget to rinse their plate one too many times. Think of me as that uncle that left your auntie to go find himself in Europe but manages to still appear uninvited to every event in your life.

As a strapping young lad, I’m good with computers and those smart phones that all the youngsters play on. If you need to live-stream the ceremony to that auntie’s new partner who lives in India but is working quickly towards permanent residency, I’ve got the Zoom account that lets you have meetings over 40 minutes… I’ll hook you up…

It’s a shame that it is still a line that we have to add to clarify, but I don’t mind how many appendages – or lack thereof – that you and your partner have between you, nor do I care which god you pray to when someone is looking at a couple of photos in your camera roll but swiping a little too quick. As long as it’s legal, I’m keen!

For many years I worked in event styling and wedding planning. Too regularly I would find myself watching the ceremonies (often while ugly crying) and being totally engrossed from start to finish. I loved every minute of it.
After completing a Bachelor of Business in Event Management I said goodbye to the wedding industry and dived head first into the wonderful world of corporate events. I’m a journalist by trade having spent most of the last 30 years in Australian radio, TV and digital newsrooms. I’ve worked across the three commercial networks but spent most of my time at Channel Nine’s TODAY show. I still do produce the odd bit of television, and do some freelance production work but mostly now, I like to marry people! Wedding ceremonies are fantastic fun because regardless of the fabulous celebrations that follow, it’s the ceremony that means the most to couples. Getting Married  Under the Marriage Act 1961 there are certain obligations that you, as a couple intending to get married, must meet prior to a marriage ceremony being solemnised.
A Notice of Intended Marriage (NIM) must be lodged with me  no less than one month and no more than eighteen months prior to the marriage being solemnised.
Notice of Intended Marriage form would be completed at your first meeting  and the required documentation must be produced Parties to a marriage must produce evidence of date and place of birth and this can be done by producing a birth certificate, drivers licence or an Australian or Overseas passport. In the case of persons previously married, an original copy of your Divorce Certificate or, if applicable a Court Annulment Certificate; the case of widowhood, an original copy of the Death Certificate must be produced. These documents MUST be produced before the marriage can take place. It is essential that you allow yourself adequate time to acquire them if you have misplaced them.
Prior to your wedding, both parties will be required to sign a declaration, under the Marriage Act 1961, stating that you believe there is no legal impediment to the marriage between yourself and your partner. This is a legal document and calls for honesty at all times. Penalties may apply for false or misleading information.

Dr Anthony Cheung OAM resides in Sydney since his migration to Australia from Hong Kong in 1988.

Anthony has had a distinguished career as an educator and linguist.  He attained his PhD in Education and Linguistics at the University of Nottingham, UK in 1988.  He speaks fluent English, Putonghua and Cantonese.

In addition to his career, Dr Cheung has been playing an active role in community affairs.  He was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his service to the community through a range of organisations.

Anthony is a seasoned presenter.  His hallmark presentation style embraces sincerity, warmth, humor, class, gravity and professionalism.

Bring a newly appointed Celebrant, Anthony will conduct his ceremonies with freshness, instilling an ambience of vigor and warmness at ceremonies.  He is able to deliver personal services to create meaningful and memorable ceremonies for his clients.
