Yes—you are absolutely welcome to include rituals, symbolic gestures, or cultural practices like handfasting, sand ceremonies, unity candles, or anything else that holds meaning for you. These personal touches can make your ceremony more emotional, memorable, and uniquely yours.

Popular ceremony rituals include:

  • Handfasting – binding hands with a cord or ribbon to symbolise unity

  • Sand ceremony – blending coloured sands to represent two lives becoming one

  • Unity candle – lighting a central candle together to signify shared commitment

  • Wine box and love letter ritual – sealing a box with keepsakes or letters for future anniversaries

  • Cultural rituals – such as tea ceremonies, garland exchanges, or blessings

The only rule?

As long as your celebrant includes the legal Monitum and vows, everything else is flexible. Rituals must not replace the legal elements, but they can sit beautifully alongside them.

Your AMC celebrant can help plan the timing, wording, and symbolism to suit your ceremony style.
